KCAC lives!

Hey, what's this "the blog is dead" crap???? Do you folks really give up that easily? We've got something good going here, and I'm just getting started on my historical project. I need all of you to stay in touch and participate if we're going to make this work. OK, postings are down (and, if I may say so, wandering increasingly astray from the subject at hand; yeah, I know, I'm guilty of it too). But I see this as a pause, not an ending. I'm in this for the long run. (NOT a reference to an Eagles song, by the way. A reference to my profession in archaeology, where I routinely deal with time in hundred-year increments.) Are ya with me or not??? Mariah: haven't heard from you for awhile; what do you think? Maybe another gathering sometime between now and the New Year to keep folks talking, thinking, and looking forward? Ken Beals: you know what I'd like to do; can I count on your help? Andy Olson: you're our master tape archivist and technical wizard as well as carrying on the good fight with Radio Free Phoenix. You're part of this too. Marty Manning... this is about your life, and your good friends' lives, and what you were able to accomplish together. We've got a cool little online community here, with the potential to set AND ACHIEVE some modest goals. All we've gotta do is take advantage of this possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. (None of us, to my knowledge, are getting any younger.) I hate to sound like a football coach here, but...c'mon, folks! Falling apart, drifting back into isolation and apathy, is easy. Staying focused and working together is tough work, but why else are we here??? OK, I've vented my spleen. Now it's your turn. GO!

COLLOIDAL SILVER - Better than sex!

EVERYTHING YOU READ FROM HERE ON DOWN MAY BE A LIE!
How's THAT for a "I am not a doctor - butt" disclaimer?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Off- BLOG email from Mariah sez she's got the flu.
So for her benefit (not because I give a damn about the rest of you) here is some info on Colloidal Silver. I repeat I am not a doctor butt.
SILVER is a very old remedy for infections, going back to the Knights Templar and even farther. You get a cut or stab wound? Place your silver cross on it and say anything you believe in and it will be well on it's way to healing in 24 hours with NO infection as a rule, if you keep the cross on there.
During The Plague people caught crap and died EXCEPT the wealthy folks who ate off silver plates with silver utensils.... for the most part.
The wars saw silver used not only for photography but silver foil and silver mesh was used on burns and such. But here's the kicker - OLD research in the 1930's seems to have observed STEM CELL PRODUCTION in the presence of silver, during cellular mitosis. That's right - cellular mitosis - the only miracle science cannot explain (at least to my satisfaction) seems to at least occasionally pump out a THIRD cell to be carried away by the blood stream and dropped off at an injury site where it can be utilized as a building block of healing.
It IS NOT an antibiotic regardless of what you might read on the Internet
As a colloid you are dealing with silver as a trace element, measured in PPM (Parts Per Million). When CS gets cold, it takes on a milky look but is just as effective as when clear. Exposed to light, it will turn a slight brownish/amber color. You can SEE the particles with a laser pen.
Use of Colloidal Silver falls under the heading of PREVENTIVE medication. If you use it and DON'T get sick, it worked! COLLOIDAL silver has much more with the DISTRIBUTION of silver - turning it into almost a thin but invisible paint - it goes almost EVERYWHERE topically and internally as well. Again, it is NOT an antibiotic but rather functions as an antiseptic, killing them little bacteria and germy vermin almost on contact, and the contact is THOROUGH in the colloidal form. The SMALLER and FINER the particles, the deeper the penetration into the tissue, the more germs and viruses die.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So how do you get Colloidal silver? It is commercially available on the Internet at exorbitant prices OR you can make your own. You need PURE silver, PURE water and chemically PURELY CLEAN (glass/PYREX) utensils. Remember you are going to make a COLLOID (like a very thin Jell-O) not a SOLUTION. You are going to do something like a high school experiment in ELECTROPLATING using pure silver, only a few volts of electricity and pure, distilled water. Nothing more. 1. You need a source of PURE silver. Silver - two INGOTS of 99.99 sterling silver from a jewelry shop is best. The Canadian pure silver coin is OK.
2. Electricity can be AC or DC in the range of 20 - 30 volts. FOUR nine volt batteries wired in series works well. Positives and negatives plug right in to each other.
3. Hook one silver ingot to each wire. Technically one is a cathode, one is an anode. Polarity does not matter, therefore you can use a 24-volt power supply (transformer). Three 9-volt batteries in series ... make 27 volts. FOUR is best - 36 volts lasts longer.
4. Place one silver ingot at the sides or ends of a glass container, about the size of an 6-oz water glass. BOIL your distilled water IN GLASS such as a coffee decanter and pour enough in the PYREX container boiling, to cover the ingots - not the wires or clips. Boiling water allows more silver into the suspension although room temperature is OK. PURE DISTILLED WATER is absolutely essential to the process. After you have done this a few times and have made the mistake of using tap water you will come to realize what horrific stuff tap water really is. Tap water because of the chlorine, salts and other minerals in it, will fizz, roil, scum over and make you wonder WHY you ever drank that stuff! AVOID boiling your distilled water in any type of metal container.
5. Turn on the electricity or connect the batteries and let the process continue for about 20-30 minutes or so. You're done. The water will hold just so much silver. 20-30 minutes is enough.
SILVER is light sensitive. Keep your Colloidal Silver in a brown or blue bottle or in the dark. A NASAL SPRAY BOTTLE is OK for frequent use. GLASS and dark storage is best, having to do with polarity of the molecular structure. A brown glass bottle with a dropper is good. You can use it as a nasal spray. Use it as an eye and ear drop. Large doses over a long time it is said, will cause a slight BLUE tint to occur on the body's skin. THIS OLD WIVE'S TALE IS PROBABLY FALSE. We are talking about DRINKING several glasses per day for months on end. Simple drops have no such effect. Silver toxicity? Here, have a sip of this bleach..... No, that's tapwater. Sorry.

BE AWARE that a COLLOID is like a PAINT. Why not paint your nostrils, eyes, ears and so on with silver? Try it. Three or more times per day at the onset of infections. Use common sense and stop usage when you are well. CS is NOT an antibiotic, but functions more as a disinfectant. <

TIPS: Use your jar lid in the bottom of your warming pan to keep the glass container from overheating on contact with the pan

Keep your CS IN THE DARK .. It is light sensitive. You are working with a form of TARNISH that isn't tarnish yet.

COLLOIDAL SILVER WILL KILL EVERY KNOWN PATHOGEN WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF CONSTANT CONTACT.
Then again, everything you have read above may be a lie.

Approaching 14,000 hits - How "big" are we really?

Camels and shadows. Click to enlarge.

There are two types of hit counters on the bottom of the page here and the numbers may be a bit confusing, even misleading. Are we Camels or are we Shadows? Hmmm?

The simple, consecutive hit counter on the left (bottom of the BLOG) lets us know how many times consecutively, the site has been accessed. It's really just a loose index but it doesn't really tell ya the truth. Many times Spammers, advertising "Go-Bots" Cookie Peddlers and so forth will hit the blog looking for a target. Key words, certain frequencies of hits and God knows what else determine how long they stay or whether they have a product they want to rub in our faces.

REAL readers... humans... average a little over 30 per day for a little less than 5 minutes each. Jimmy plugged in the counter on the right (bottom of the BLOG) which is far more analytical and truthful.

But hey...... 30 REAL people PER DAY is a pretty strong core group of anonymous "firemen" to have on hand if the house burns down.

Click on the counter on the right (bottom of the BLOG) for more details.

Liz Boyle Does it Again!! Hooray for AMEHOF!

The talent and heart of our lovely Liz Boyle, the New Time's 2006 "Best Radio Personality in the Valley" has again been recognized!! Liz was recently elected to the Board of Director's of the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame!!! Liz will be such a great asset to AMEHOF! Way to go, Liz! You also might remember seeing AMEHOF's Terri Sussman at our cosmic 'Rebirth of Real' Alwun House gathering. Terri is AMEHOF's new Board of Director's President. Congratulations! And it was Ken Beals, a member of AMEHOF's Board of Director's who offered to videotape our Alwun House party (see pics by clicking on Daniel's photo link to the left of the blog.)

Here on the blog during the past year, so many of you have expressed your sincere enthusiasm and concern about preserving the wonderful organization that is our Az Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. Anyone who was lucky enough to attend their outstanding induction ceremony last year saw what the heart and soul of AMEHOF is about. AMEHOF has a lot of support in our community, so let's let them HEAR IT from us. You can get involved as a volunteer and AMEHOF periodically takes applications for their Advisory Board.

So how about it? Just takes a second to send your comments to AMEHOF at AzHallofFame@aol(dot)com-it might make you feel all warm and fuzzy too! Click on our link to their website under "Community" to see a slideshow of pics from last year's ceremony. There's more info about the Board by clicking their 'About Us" tab. And if you want a trip down memory lane, check out their music archives. John Dixon put it together. Wow!

As we all saw at Alwun House, God is Alive, Magic is Afoot. Woo Hoo! Let's keep that spirit alive!

AFLAC Scam (no, silly, not really...!)

Seems the Better Business Bureau got a complaint the other day about a scam that AFLAC was taking advantage of women on the street and stealing their money.

Now it might not seem too far-fetched that an Insurance Company would try to make a profit, but this despicable scam is netting COLD HARD CASH from unsuspecting individuals.

Believe it or not, the thief uses children to distract the target. While admiring the cute kids they're robbed of their cash and never know what hit them.

A passer by with a digital camera phone captured the photo below...

Update ftrom Tom

Hi all -

No, I haven't forgotten about my Modest Proposal as outlined at the Alwun House in September. Here's what I've done so far (which, admittedly, is barely even a start):

1. Worked on digitizing all of my old tapes that are relevant to this project;

2. Met with Andy Olson to have him do some repair/rehab on old tapes that might not otherwise be salvageable; and discussed his tape collection, which includes many recordings that I do not have myself;

3. Encouraged Ken Beals to contact Channel 8 and search their archives for videotapes of the "Profile" shows that Bill Compton hosted back in 1974/75;

4. Sent Hans Olson copies of my tapes of him on KDKB ca. 1974-1975, and encouraged him to look through any old tapes that he might have; and

5. Discussed the whole idea of a formal, coordinated historical project with a friend who is a history teacher and, like me, a Phoenix native and an avid listener to Phoenix radio (KRIZ, KRUX, KCAC, KDKB) back in our younger days. He is also experienced (not in the Jimi Hendrix sense... well, maybe so, but irrelevant to this discussion) in historical research procedures, and he is acquainted with folks in the ASU history department and he has some ideas about how to approach them and see if we can get a graduate student interested in this topic. He is currently very active in the political scene, but after the election he may have some time to devote to this project.

So, not much progress, but perhaps the beginnings of something that we can all ultimately contribute to. We may not be able to solve all of the world's problems but we can make sure that this particular piece of history is not forgotten once we old farts pass from the scene. Comments and ideas are welcome, on the blog or as emails to me at tomwright666@yahoo.com.

(PS - the email address is nothing to be creeped out by. When I created the account my name was already taken so I needed to add some numbers to it, and I had recently been working along Highway 666 in southeastern Arizona. It has since been renumbered as Highway 191 because some of the Chamber of Commerce types objected to the Devil's Highway running through their towns. It runs from Douglas north through Safford, Clifton, Springerville, St. Johns, and Sanders before heading west into New Mexico, and it is one of the most scenic highways in the state.)

New Space for Rebirth

Hey Cats and Jammers...
I just now put a Rebirth site up on the web, [click on headline] it by no means is finished... , all missing art, corrections and broken links need to be done yet... none of the forms or scriped features work... more a work in progress at this point, but its got a home and here's what I got so far.
The Future Auction [see, we the people bid $1,000...] is of special interrest to me, as we could promote and share it world wide and get MILLIONS of people, from hundreds of countrys, to bid on their future... our future... and share the running total of bids and bidders, their country and comments if posible. all updated constantly on that page everywhere. People are impressed by big numbers and immediate feedback! Safety in numbers...? Please check it out I'm trying to fine tune it, and make it understandable and easy, any feedback would be apreciated. We can worry about coding it later.
Dan, i intend to link or copy the Rebirth part of your site to this site when i can... Cool? I had the web space from my new ISP and I wanted to load something up... just to see! so there it is.
Love Y'all
Bruce

http://myweb.cableone.net/bfrank/index.html

Heres my new music space on 'myspace'

PS i attached a poem i thought appropriate... here, thinking of you now...
or... now, thinking of you here

Love and Laughter to ya'll
Bruce

I love you…
Do you understand me when I tell you that I love you
Can you comprehend it when I say that you are me…

When we came upon each other, I knew once more
I had arrived at this moment… just in time
Of course I said afterward… it had to be
Yes of course… just in time
I recognized… you and I… here…
Just as long ago…
When we set out on this amazing journey
Each of us… on the way…
All of us…
Each of us with a special duty…
And there, long ago… when we set out,
It was you and I.
All of us who were to meet…
Here and now
And if we let ourselves…
If we but share…
If
If…
If we are real…
Then we shall cause a million angels…
To care for… US
And our prayers will be real…
when in Rebirth
…They are awnsered.

For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite - And Kana

Dan Covington is about to strike out on a huge amount of work that may not be necessary. Not that it isn't fun, but copying old LP's to MP3 MAY have already been done.

So, check out Limewire.. It's where I found "Parallelograms" and a whole bunch of Moody Blues in the original LP mix PLUS Hoyt Axton, Harry Nillson, Laurie Anderson, ANY OBSCURE SONG OR ARTIST YOU CAN IMAGINE including Buffy and "God Is Alive, Magic is Afoot" will be on Limewire, at some time or another.

Here's how it works... You and umpteen jillion other computer users log on at the same time like a come-and-go party. You do a search on Limewire for the song you want [or video or file or whatever] and it downloads right to you from however many computers HAVE the song you are looking for. While THAT is going on the stuff YOU have that somebody is searching for goes OUT to them!

Got cable or DSL? It happens in a flash. Got dialup? fill your search list and go to bed.

Default directories are /MyMusic in most cases but you can SPECIFY access paths if you have political secrets on your computer or may have fallen into one of the porno traps at MySpace.

It's worth a click to find out about.... just click the headline to find and download it.

CAUTION: Limewire is a background task program and it MAY (probably will) invoke on its own and run even when you are not using it or haven't even clicked it. SAVE your download to disk so you can uninstall it and bring it back up when you need it. Otherwise you may get a little spyware sneaking through your firewall from time to time.

What do I get out of this?
The satisfaction of knowing that ASCAP and BMI are finally getting exactly what they deserve.

Ronco

Who's the guy in the beard?

Ran across this photo in a 1985 article in Off-Mike magazine. Our old pal the late Earl Baldwin (a former Ronald McDonald by the way!) is the focus of the article, but notice that in naming the telethon hosts in the left photo, they skipped right over that guy in the beard!

Bill Compton - IDEA: The "hidden" music in the picture.

Click to enlarge

The ORIGINAL PHOTO was grabbed by Dan "Kana" Covington back in the 1970's and caught Bill in what I believe is one of his best images. Keep in mind this is a computer artist's rendition, not an exact image.

The rendition you see here was hugely shrunk from a work by a friend of mine in Canada. It looks like ice crystals or salt crystals or an in Indian sand painting. The version he did originally, was big enough to print a mural or billboard from and it took his Macintosh HOURS of high-speed calcs to construct. I have it saved on CD somewhere. This is the kind of image that CAN be a composite of many thousands of other images, shrunk up so tiny as to resemble grains of sand.

Now, I know I am really fantasizing here.. but WHAT IF each of those data clusters [grains of salt or sand] - when you zoom in on them - were an MP3 recording of a song? What if all those songs were selected from the playlists at KCAC and KDKB and made LISTENABLE and DOWNLOADABLE from a KCAC Lives! Memorial Website? The idea is that such an image would be in essence a MENU of say, random songs - each to be "discovered" by the browser? Wanna play? Call me crazy (you won't be the first) but this might be the type of online memorial that would spread the experience and make it work!

Now.... please excuse me. I must continue my experiments in the basement. Oh sure, I know we don't HAVE a basement - but it's a great way to hide my perpetual motion machine.

Embrace The Trembling Masses - Seduce Their Courageous Asses

Crop Circle in England, employing Arabic numbers.

Please consider that I have been incarcerated in a Medical Facility for a few days and may indeed, not be in full charge of my faculties but I gotta tell ya, this has crossed my mind more than once...

These 11,000,000 Illegal Aliens (would you believe more like 18,000,000) MAY... juat MAY, boys and girls... be a part of God's Army??

Yes, yes, I know, this sounds like I am doing a Bush burning but hey.. think; These people BET IT ALL to come here. They, more than any of us perhaps, know what it means to be AN AMERICAN and they are not here because their mamma's were here first.

Amongst the jillion infiltrators that jump our borders are CONSIDERABLY MORE THAN A FEW people that look "Messican" but are from the Middle East and are sworn to Jihad. [Jihad is pronounced Yee-Haw with a "D" on the end, in Redneck].

Some guy with a bunch of bucks and something to prove hired a 10-piece Mariachi Band the other day to play music while he rode AN ELEPHANT from Mexico across the Rio Grande UNENCUMBERED and not even OBSERVED by the Border Patrol.

Osama Bin Here and any number of his trained goons could EASILY come to work at the Circle K down the street from you until they get the signal to go out amongst the suburbs with their copies of The Watchtower and whack your head off when you come to the door.

WHO COULD POSSIBLY SPOT THESE PEOPLE? For that matter who would even CHALLENGE them? Jose' can you see? ASSUME the Iraq war is a distraction while thundering hordes arrive from Pakistan and Venezuela to say..... Naco or Old Tucson.

Hey...... Ese', you speak Farsi?

It is too late to "wake up" America. The CHANGE that was Blowin' In The Wind yesterday is staring right up your skirt and we can't hide from it. I say seduce the courageous asses who are ALREADY HERE and ALLOW them to help us defend OUR country from those who do not belong here. Kiss me, Rosita and tell me if the guy at the front door es' muchacho.

Then again, we could outsource our National Guard. After all, Mammon Rules.

God is Alive, Magic is afoot - amigo.

Heeeee's BAAaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!

Hi boys and girls....

Happy accident on an incorrect med that took me over the top on potassium levels. Caused me some blackouts This turned out to be a GOOD thing.. will have a couple of days back in the hospital in a week or so to clean out a carotid artery that is 80% closed...

More important... All the tests showed that my previous strokes are healed. Did NOT expect that but wasn't too surprised. Been taking White Powders of Gold for a few months. More on that later... THANK YOU for the phone calls and emails.

Far more important stuff happening in the world.

Remember the post on "The Hum" and how I was saying there were TWO of them and that I thought it MIGHT be earthquake related and was guessing about an October 10th date but no idea WHERE?

Aloha All,

I road this one out on my queen size bed, while "playing" with my dogs. One more time, that I NO listen, to the signs. Now, I see there "play" was more like get your okoli [ass] out of bed and outside. That is just what they both did, as soon as house started swaying, they went out side, though their doggie door. While I road the serf on the bed, it was a long ride, almost a min. my only damage, was an empty plastic bottle fel in the bath tub, tuff.

For those of you that don't live on a 3 live Volcano, earthquakes accure as the magma moves underground. The weight of these islands, against the serface of the planit, it cause the islands to sink about half and inch a year. The last earthquake of this size was in the mid 70' [ ninteen 70's that is] The Kona area, had about one forth of the people living there, not to mention 50 thousand touists.

It ain't over, until your hear from Pele [Goddist of the Volcano]. Most earthquakes are, the pre-curser to a lava out break. These quakes [the last after shock of 3.3 was at about 3:20, about an hour ago] are under the Volcano Hualalai, located north of Kona. The Kona Aiport, and many of the new big Resorts, sit on lava flows from Hualalai. From the acentent chants, Hualalai erupts about every 200 years, more time than that has passed ....

I am in the Puna District, south of Hilo. On the other side of the island, Mauna Loa sits at 13 thousand feet between Hualalai and Kilauea. I am in a safe place at 500' elevation, on the northeastern sloap of Kilauea. After the earhquake this morning, this area only breafly lost power. Commucation, cel calls off island [ Kona was out, due to lack of power], TV satalites up links, Radio were all cut of, one of the intresting things, was use of ATM's and Credit Cards and more .... all due to power being out on Ohau. The lights were on, and we had Church as usual. This is an increadable, for me it was gathering with people of spirit, in Mahalo [graditude]. Other were: some farmer and constrution works, that just go on there tractors and started clearing roads, NO calls to the boss, NO checking on libility, just go malama aina [care for the land].

Let the people of the world know we are alive with ALOHA!

Photo Album Change!

Howdy! I've moved the photo albums to a new hosting site. Webshots changed owners a year or so ago, and in my opinion they've gone downhill ever since. More advertising, more bells and whistles, more resource drain, and, just lately, a new requirement that you have to be personally invited to view private albums, which "improvement" has caused a few problems for our little family here. Oh, and they also raised the price for their premium service. After checking out several photo hosting sites I've decided to go with Picasa Web Albums, and have migrated our photos over there. Several friends tested the new site and found no problems with it, so I've changed the KCAC Lives! Photo Albums page on my site (that's the target of the "KCAC Lives! Photo Albums" link under "The Community" in the left sidebar here) to point to the new album location. Please check it out, and email me if you discover any problems. While there you might like to visit my Public Gallery, too, there are some nice pictures there and I'm in the process of adding more.

Many thanks to all who have contributed - and if you have pictures you'd like added to the albums, email those to me with caption information and I'll upload them to the albums.

Ron in hospital...

Hi,

Ron's son Dustin just sent me an email notifying (us) that his dad's in the hospital, and gave a phone number. I called him (Ron) and talked with him for a few minutes, and learned that he had been taking some potassium and got too much in his system and, though I don't know what the symptoms were, he wound up in the hospital. He says it was a good thing, because while there they discovered he had some occlusion in his carotid arteries, so they're going to do a procedure to clean that up, as well as getting his chemistry back to normal. He sounds quite upbeat, and minimizes the seriousness of his condition - I'm not sure if that's because he's really doing well or because he doesn't want people to worry too much. In either case, he would like us to know the reason he hasn't been posting on the blog for a couple days. He's grateful for our concern and good wishes, and welcomes any phone calls: (903) 870-4233. Keep him in your thoughts.

Love,

Time Travel: Somehwere Over the Rainbow

AN ALTERNATE 9/11 HISTORY
By staying 'humble,' as he promised in 2000, Bush preserved much of the post-9/11 good will abroad.
By
Jonathan Alter

Five years after 9/11, the world is surprisingly peaceful. President Bush's pragmatic and bipartisan leadership has kept the United States not just strong but unexpectedly popular across the globe. The president himself is poised to enjoy big GOP wins in the midterm elections, a validation of his subtle understanding of the challenges facing the country. A new survey of historians puts him in the first tier of American presidents.

As Bush warned, catching terrorists wasn't easy, but he kept at it. At the battle of Tora Bora, CIA operatives on the ground cabled Washington that Osama bin Laden was cornered, but they desperately needed troop support. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld immediately dispatched fresh forces, and the evildoer was killed. While bin Laden was seen as a martyr in a few isolated areas, the bulk of the Arab world had been in sympathy with the United States after 9/11 and shed no tears. After their capture, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and other 9/11 terrorists were transported to the United States, where they were tried and quickly executed.

Today, Al Qaeda remains a threat but its opportunities for recruitment have been scarce, and the involvement of the entire international community has helped dramatically reduce terrorist attacks worldwide. Because Bush believes diplomacy requires talking to adversaries as well as friends, even Syria and Iraq were forced to help. By staying "humble," as he promised in 2000, he preserved much of the post-9/11 good feeling abroad, which paid dividends when it came time to pull together a coalition to handle North Korea and Iran.

At home, some aides suggested that Bush simply tell the nation to "go shopping." But the president knew he had a precious opportunity to ask Americans for real sacrifice. He took John McCain's suggestion and pushed through Congress an ambitious national-service program that bolstered communities and helped train citizens as first responders.

Soon Bush put the country on a Manhattan Project crash course to get off oil. He bluntly told Detroit that it was embarrassing that Chinese automakers had better fuel efficiency, he classified SUVs as cars, and he imposed a stiff gas tax with a rebate for the working poor. To pay for it, he abandoned his tax cuts for the wealthy, reminding the country that no president in history had ever cut taxes in the middle of a war. This president would be damned if he was going to put more oil money into the pockets of Middle Eastern hatemongers who had killed nearly 3,000 of our people. To dramatize the point, he drove to his 2002 State of the Union address in a hybrid car. Sales soared.

When Karl Rove suggested that the war on terror would make a perfect wedge issue against Democrats in the 2002 midterms, Bush brought him up short. Didn't Rove understand that bipartisanship is good politics? Lincoln and FDR had both gone bipartisan during wartime, he reminded his aide. So when evidence of torture at the prison camp in Guantánamo Bay surfaced and Rumsfeld was forced to resign, former Democratic senator Sam Nunn got the job. With post-9/11 unity still at least partially intact in 2004, Bush was re-elected in a landslide.

Taking a cue from Lincoln's impatience with his generals, Bush was merciless about poor performance on homeland security. When the head of the FBI couldn't fix the bureau's computers in a year's time to "connect the dots," he was out. And Bush had no patience for excuse-making about leaky port security, unsecured chemical plants and first responders whose radios didn't communicate. If someone had told him that five years after 9/11 these problems would still be unsolved, Bush would have laughed him out of the office.

In 2003, Vice President Cheney advised the president to take out Iraq's Saddam Hussein militarily. But Bush was beginning to understand that his veep, while sounding full of gravitas, was in fact reckless. When it became clear that Saddam posed no imminent threat, Bush resolved to neuter him, Kaddafi style. When the president found, after a little asking around, that the 10-year cost of invading Iraq would be a crushing $1.2 trillion, he opted out of this war of choice. Five years after that awful September day, even Bush's fiercest critics have learned an important lesson: leadership counts. Imagine if we'd done the opposite of these things. This country—and the world—would be in a heap of trouble.

Photo of Crater Lake

Hi!

I drove a friend down to Shady Cove to pick up his son for a weekend visit, and the kid had never seen Crater Lake before. The last few times I've gone down to pick him up the Rim Drive was closed because of snow, or something else prevented us from taking that scenic detour, but this time we managed to go that way. Of course I had to stop and take a picture while I was there...

The Great Spirit's quite the artist, no?

Enjoy!

Iraq war upgraded from quagmire to morass...

Okay, I just couldn't resist posting this... ran across it sorting through old "stuff" and had to share the sick chuckle... sorry... :~|

RUMSFELD UPGRADES IRAQ FROM QUAGMIRE TO MORASS

Situation Disastrous But Not Catastrophic, Defense Sec'y Says

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld told reporters at the Pentagon today that the conflict in Iraq had improved to the point that it could no longer be considered a quagmire and should now be thought of as a morass.

"After taking a look at what is going on there on the ground, it is my judgment that it is time to upgrade Iraq from quagmire to morass," Mr. Rumsfeld said, adding that he was "very confident" in making the new assessment.

The Defense Secretary said that the decision to invade Iraq could no longer be considered "a boneheaded mistake of unthinkable proportions" and should now be thought of as "a colossal error we will regret for years to come."

"That's a measure of how much things have improved," he said. "Anyone who takes a look at the big picture over there would come away saying that the situation is disastrous but not catastrophic."

In order to fight the perception that the war in Iraq is going badly, Mr. Rumsfeld said he would ask Congress for an additional $37 billion dollars to go toward euphemisms and synonyms.

Mr. Rumsfeld appeared to bristle at the question of one reporter, Charles Dolgian of the Toledo Blade, who asked if it was still appropriate to refer to the war in Iraq as "a train wreck."

"It is most decidedly not a train wreck," Mr. Rumsfeld said. "It is a train derailment in which the train hurtles down into the embankment and bursts into flames."

(off-topic) CONTACT

MEMORIES AND AN APOLOGY TO RAY THOMSON

When we were all living at the Scottsdale House (before there WAS a Scottsdale) Ray Thomson demonstrated a gadget that I ALMOST got to see work. It was about the size of a toy car. These days such toys are totally wireless and would have seemed miraculous then.

At the time I was pretty strung out. June Johnson's kittens had scared the shit out of me in the kitchen while no one was home - by opening and closing the drawers in the cabinets from behind, where I could not see them. So when Ray was about to demonstrate his machine, I ASSUMED it was a static generator to raise the hair on your head and did not stay to watch. That was stupid, fearfull and ignorant of me Ray, and I aplogize (now that it is 35 years later and I am 1,000 miles away).

But now I am learning about guys like Nikoli Tesla. Cars that run on water. Electricity from sunlight. And Crop Circles.

You are probably well aware of them by now but what if they really are PAGES.. LIKE IN A BOOK?

WARNING: OFFENSIVE POLITICAL OBSCENITIES - PARENTAL GUIDANCE ADVISED, OTHERWISE DO NOT CLICK HERE!

Oh, my god, it's a can of worms. Sure it has not much to do with MUSIC but that's not all that KCAC was about. Lest we forget or worse - profess ignorance..... Here is the nastiest, tackiest, most (almost) slanderous political website I have seen so far. It is a mudslinging, crapslinging attack on the Republicans. Not even a complimentary comment about the price of gasoline.

Equal time for equal crap against the Democrats encouraged (if someone has done the homework). I know... it's nasty. But, if you don't LOOK at the septic tank how will you know it needs attention before you fall into it someday? Hhhhmmmmmmm?

I am told this is where God or The Devil lives. I can only point the way - go there if you dare. Click the headline.

After all these years of observing politics, I have become an active non-participant, a non-voter by choice who believes our political system is broken. From what I have observed, being a candidate in EITHER party at any level above local politics, requires FIRST that you are capable of being blackmailed. You throw your hat in the ring and lay your head on the chopping block, right under The Sword of Damacles.

My opinion.

The Picture: Quite old - from the 1960's I believe. A poor elephant somehow ingested something indigestible like a plastic bag. The handlers flooded her with water, laxatives and gallons of mineral oil for days. She was horribly miserable.

Finally one handler literally reached in to help. You can see his feet and hat under the pile. He propped himself up and kept his face clear. A man's gotta breathe, ya know.

Politics is like that. Click if you dare. I told ya so.

LOST? HOO MEE?

We blew by 13,00 hits a day or so ago.THANKS, TOM WRIGHT Having lived on 35th Ave. at the hill house for 5 years and Starbrite for only 5 months, it is easy to misplace one's houseshoes. Dan has motivated me to at least look.

Much has changed since 1969. The houses with the possible exception of Ray's old place - have been torn down and rebuilt and painted blinding white. The places marked were the locations only. I am almost sure though that the round area at the bottom of the screen is The Living Room - or where it was, at least. Anyone with a pickup truck would see it as a pile of discarded junk - not knowing it once had been Sacred Ground, consecrated by shared communion elements that were scarce and rare, even for the times. It's a hoot to see that circle from the air.

To have Google Earth find it in perspective, have it search 43rd Ave. & West Estrella Phoenix, AZ. It will "fly" you there.

ANNOUNCING: KCAC Lives! "GABBLY" UNDERGROUND NEWS!!!!

CLICK THE HEADLINE ABOVE TO READ "UNDERGROUND NEWS IN GABBLY CHAT MODE!
Bruce Frank is absolutely going to love this idea and I think, you will too. There is just an unbelievable amount of crap going on in the world and for the most part it is going UNREPORTED in the controlled MSM (Main Stream Media). That includes MOST of the Internet, ALL of the major TV Networks AND the morning paper. Take it from me [and Frank Zappa] boys and girls - it CAN happen here.

For instance; YESTERDAY - October 7th, 2006 in 200 cities across our country THOUSANDS of anti-Bush protesters turned out in a spontaneous series of demonstrations ranging from Street Theatre with costuming to old-fashioned non-cooperation with and even allegedly, assault of - police officers. Yesterday. Here. In Amerika. Is THIS the first you have heard about it?
But that is not the ONLY fascism fun in fantasyland. Over in Vladimir Putin's ballpark - you know, where they keep all the nukes - A woman writer critical of the Putin regime was gunned down in cold blood in the street... You know, like the ones in front of Wal-Mart. That is NOT her in this picture by the way - Those are both Americans, one is being paid.

All you can do is change the channel or pop in a DVD. THEN AGAIN you can READ current news, rumors, propaganda or lies and even POST current news, rumors, propaganda or lies right here on the blog.

SURELY you have wanted to make up a story about a politician or report a rumor or repeat The Truth about somebody... right? Take the Foley thing. Weigh that against the Jeff Gannon story (male prostitute and possible coke mule) who was admitted to the white house and other Washington hospitalities HUNDREDS of times. Covered up. G00gle Gannon if you dare. Foley is a pole dancer in a spoylight performace at a topless bar.

So here's the deal; The chat mode on this page has gone more or less unused until now but it lends itsel oh, so well to gossip. Or news. Whenever you post something, it stays on the display for what... probably 24 hours. I have posted just a few lines about the demonstrations but YOU (Bruce?) may have other and better information on other topics.

IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO CUT/PASTE a line or two you may have read somewhere anonymously on the Gabbly chat mode, for the next guy to read about or do research on or maybe take action upon or share with a friend.

Click on the headline to activate Gabbly Chat. Better yet, when you get there with Gabbly Chat on your screen - bookmark it or save it to favorites in your browser. WHY? So you can chat with other readers AND so you can read the "Underground" (damn, that sounds so naughty) news of the day!

Whatcha see is what ya get - Also, whatcha DON'T see

Scanned from the CD case cover of Led Zepplin's "Latter Days".
It is a 1990's photo taken by Hubble [who some are trying to shut down - probably because we are seeing TOO MUCH]. Don't think about this too much, you might quit your job.

It is an entire galaxy - a galactical "Cloud" if you would.

Take a fly speck or drop a ball-point pen anywhere on the picture. That dot would represent ALMOST the size of our solar system. Imagine how tiny and insignificant we are in this picture.

"Stairway To Heaven" besides all the drug-related and/or philosophical and/or sexual connotations, has like almost all music - a deeper meaning.

This image under normal or even telescopic magnification, is completely invisible to the human eye. The Hubble picture was taken with a LIGHT-SHIFTED camera, deep within the ultra-violet range, the only way we could ever "see" this. Ever.

Even the 10% of the brain we are allowed to use can BARELY embrace the sight and concept. The translation to our field of color recognition is all within the technology of Hubble.

But hey - if a CAMERA can do it, can we not do it as well? Perhaps we already do but are agreed to not speak of it. Because then, you get into spooky stuff and that is just socially unnacceptable.

Buffy & Lennie

Hey, I just bought a Buffy Sainte-Marie CD with God is Alive, Magic Is Afoot on it. Probably the first time I've heard it in 30-plus years. Very cool. Did you know that it is actually a Leonard Cohen poem that Buffy set to music? Good ol' Lenny. I've loved him ever since my high school days, when songs like Avalanche and Dress Rehearsal Rag convinced me that somebody, somewhere, was even more miserable than me. And somehow, out of all that gloom and doom, came transcendent moments like the above-mentioned tune, and Suzanne, and Winter Lady, and Halleluja. One of my favorite Leonard Cohen moments is the opening scene of McCabe and Mrs. Miller, an unspeakably sad and lovely film that begins with The Stranger Song as Warren Beatty, playing an itinerant gambler on horseback, approaches a frontier town through a mist of cold rain. One of the best fusions of music and images ever. Rent the DVD if you don't believe me. Anyway, here's to Lenny & Buffy, two wonderfully idiosyncratic talents who combined to create something weird and... well, magical.

ROAD RAGE ON THE NFORMATION HIGHWAY (opinion)

Off-blog emails are flying about misinformation, disinformation, outright lies and media manipulation of the Minds of America.

Tom Wright just TOUCHED on a sore spot and wow, in the background off-blog the herd shows signs of stampeding.

Not that it's a BAD thing. Sometimes you gotta raise hell to get a point across - but it does kind of take away from the entertainment value of the blog. I've been reading this stuff since Y2K and researching it even longer. In my opinion the forces in play now are going to have to be allowed to play themselves out. And yes, it may be at the cost of Our Country.

Look at the plummeting price of gas. [Time to vote boys and girls and it really would be easier if you would vote for OUR SIDE] The soaring cost of food - how long before now have you paid more than $2.00 for a tomato? And we are being told smugly, that inflation is very much under control.

So let me offer this - and it is an ugly thing to say; It is all mostly a lie. Manipulation. Rigged voting. Decadance in public office. Blackmail. Drugs. I'll even go so far as to suggest the entire Foley Event is a hurried cover-up, a distraction, a smoke screen for things far more serious and widespread. To put it simply - War is Sacred. It has become God. And it will be nurtured and fed for as long as it turns a profit.

It is all a wag in search of a dog. Mammon is in command.

My suggestion is to control the rage and watch as objectively as you can - as the coming events unfold. Keep a bowl of popcorn nearby. And the TV remote. And the phone. And the kids. And the dog.

And if you have one, a gun.

Have a great day!

If you are an anonymous poster or reader and would like to be added to The List, please drop a line to freespeak@gmail.com or anyone contributing to KCAC Lives! to be added. The List has become a reference point for memories and emails to old friends. It also has become kind of a Social Register and will be something of a reference list for reunions and such in the future. Not only that, SOMEONE - maybe someone special from the old days, MAY be trying to find YOU.

So... let us know who you are, where your memories or interests tie in and what your email address is. Get on the bus. We don't know where its going and it may NEVER leave but the music is great and the people are fun!

Fatal Attraction: free XM on AOL Radio

I almost hate to say it, but downloading the free AOL Radio player and listening to XM Radio's "Deep Tracks" channel on it - for free, again - will give you the weird feeling that you're somehow cheating on Andy Olson.

I'm listening to Jimi Hendrix's "Angel" on it right now, but earlier this morning on the uninterrupted commercial-free feed, I heard the brand new track by Jerry Lee Lewis and Mick Jagger (favorite line: "I can still paint the town all the colors of your evening gown"), some vintage CS&N and Captain Beefheart, "Everything's Gonne Be Alright" by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and - oh wow, right now, "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield (not the complete version, thankfully).

As a Radio Free Phoenix supporter, I feel like I'm staying too late at the office with the secretary every time I say "just one more song" before clicking back to RFP on iTunes. Has anybody else out there tried listening to XM on AOL Radio? If you haven't, don't. You'll only feel dirty. (Click on the title link, above, if you dare.)

I swear, Andy, Cheryl, Liz - I only tuned in at 7 this morning to hear this week's edition of "Theme Time Radio Hour" (worth the effort of downloading the AOL player and tuning it to Channel 40, for "Deep Tracks," alone). I'll be home soon.

Say, is that "Perpetual Change" by Yes playing right now?

The Adversarial Mindset vs. Impartiality and Objectivity

The Adversarial Mindset vs. Impartiality and Objectivity:

Oxymoron? Paradox? Catch 22? A Balance to be Found?

A while ago I made an entry comparing the definitions of patriotism and nationalism, noting that nationalism is anathema to the concepts of freedom and tolerance. A psychological prerequisite to the cultural phenomena of nationalism is an adversarial mindset. Without a predisposition to render all issues into a linear, two-dimensional context - and further, mistakenly assume that the two perspectives, the two perceived realities, being at opposite ends of the continuum, must be incompatible - nationalism, and other manifestations of a narrow, confrontational mindset, would be virtually impossible.

This urge to polarize everything, to break things down into simple black and white, is deeply ingrained - it's a fundamental instinct that enables us to survive in a world filled with conflicts of all sorts. Competition with other species - and, as homo sapiens evolved and developed social structures, between tribes and nations - for land, food, and other resources has been a fact of life since the pre-dawn of our history. There has always been an "I and you," and an "us and them" in our reality, from the individual level up through the family, tribe, neighborhood, city, county, state, national, political, religious, ethnic, and other social and cultural distinctions that define and often separate us from each other.

Where we draw the line between "us" and "them" depends entirely on the nature and context of the issue - and sometimes it's not up to us, it's drawn by circumstances beyond our control. And it's rarely a static line, nor a clear one, it expands and contracts according to situations, and our objectivity or subjectivity, blurring and sharpening as we learn more, constantly causing us to redefine our perceptions of reality according to the latest context and data. This need to define and divine our boundaries and allegiances, to draw and perceive the lines tween "us" and "them," is a survival mechanism, without which we wouldn't be able to make critical decisions.

It is not enough, however, to simply draw a line blindly wherever it may seem to suit us at the moment; nor is it safe to mistake someone else's imaginary line for a real one and base our decisions on it - we must separate ourselves from our fellow man with great care, and accept those separations imposed upon us by others with great reluctance and skepticism. The importance of doing so cannot be overstated. To fail in this endeavor to always strive for harmony over discord, to expand the boundaries of the inclusive circle of "us," will tip the delicate balance and spill out all our hopes for peace in the world. To fail to perceive a genuine threat from a legitimate "them" brings disaster - but to create a division where none really exists is equally foolhardy, and will also result in dire consequences. This attempt to find and maintain a balanced and realistic perspective on which to base our decisions is an endless dance.

There are a few tools we'll need to achieve this goal, though:

1. brutal honesty, both with ourselves and with each other;

2. a genuine recognition of our essential human commonality, and an understanding that we are collectively entrusted with the care and stewardship of the planet and all that is upon it, and that if we blow it we're screwed;

3. the genuine deep-seated respect for each other that must arise from recognizing our essential oneness, and our essential individual autonomy and rights;

4. a deep and abiding faith that, just as none of us are perfect, each of us making wrong and hurtful choices based on ignorance or selfishness from time to time, each also frequently acts with great compassion and goodness;

5. ...and time to adjust to this new reality, to get over the shock of paradigm shift. This might be the most difficult hurdle of all, to overcome the inertia of a billion systems seemingly hell-bent on self-destruction.

But the hard part is, this is a world-game that won't work right unless everybody plays... and by the same basic rules, of honesty, compassion and respect for our many differences. So how do we get from where we are now to that place?

I don't know the answer to that. I imagine it will take some sort of universal and transforming set of circumstances, a global epiphany, if you will, that catalyzes our collective consciousness (and conscience) and causes the seeds of reason to take root and grow. But I do know that in the meantime we must continue to have faith in the essential goodness of men - and, while discerning and guarding against erroneous information, lies, and fraud, we must sow seeds of peace and understanding, and support others who are also driven by the same desire for harmony.

I also know that those who spend their time sowing seeds of suspicion and fear, whose efforts serve to divide and alienate us from our brothers and sisters, are not themselves our enemy - they are merely wandering in their own darkness, blind to the opportunities that open before them and pass unnoticed. They are slaves to the real enemy: Ignorance. This is the enemy we must do battle with. We must find and root out the ignorance and resulting fear that lives within ourselves and within each other - and at the same time find, recognize and nurture the goodness that also lives within each of us.

Unfortunately, this is a seemingly endless process of spiritual growth and evolution, not something that can be rushed through, any more than one can expect adult behavior from a ten-year-old, or a house to be built in an hour. Lessons must be thoroughly learned, some several times over, foundations must be laid and built upon, before we finally "get it." Shortcuts result in poor workmanship and a shoddy product, and cost much more than they're worth in the time (we only imagine) we save.

Nonetheless, this seemingly monumental and impossible task, of educating ourselves and each other about the consequences of self-righteousness and disrespect for others, and the benefits of practicing and promoting mutual tolerance, understanding and respect, is one that demands our time and energy. Some would have you believe this dedication to open-mindedness is something they like to call "moral relativism," an affliction that renders one incapable of determining what one thinks might be right from what one thinks might be wrong. That's pure-dee bullcrap. Real moral relativism is a long way down the road from open-mindedness - let's use a little common sense here.

Ironically enough, the only thing we shouldn't be open-minded about is being narrow-minded... there's no room for it in any workable plan to help bring peace and prosperity to the planet. Self-righteous people who talk a lot but don't listen much make me extremely nervous. I instinctively distrust them, as they're entirely too sure of their own assumptions, too committed to their own little paradigms, to grow and evolve. They exist in a state of waking death, like zombie spiders, luring others into their petrified doctrinal webs of ignorance, fear and denial.

It's going to be a long, hard road. Perhaps together we can make a difference. Perhaps not, perhaps we are doomed like lemmings to run off the edge of the cliff, trapped in our adversarial world, to our own demise - but at least we will have tried. And perhaps there is enough goodwill and common sense left in honorable men to see us through to better times. Perhaps we can make a small but significant difference in the political landscape, through our support of politicians who are honest and competent, and share the vision of a government that is truly of, by and for The People. Perhaps we can help find the balance between the realistic skepticism required for self-preservation and the optimistic hope of open-mindedness, objectivity and cooperation required... also for our self-preservation. Let's wish ourselves good fortune and do what we can.

OFF-TOPIC: Egyptians in the Grand Canyon?

Dedicated to our Resident Archaeologist, Tom Wright

A short comment in the God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot story below this one seems to have gotten the interest of those "Anything Arizona" enthusiast - of which I am one.

Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark seems to have nurtured an already existent Conspiracy Theory that The Government whom we all trust and hold Sacred combined with the Archaeological Elite and The Church [pick one, they are all the same] are keeping a HUGE chunk of history from us.

Look at the pic above.... just above the waterline of the Colorado at flood stage, right? Kinda like The Valley Of The Kings in Egypt? (now underwater). Nahhhhhh some crazy miner with a pickaxe just spotted some color in the canyon wall and went after it.. right.. maybe back in the 1800's? Probably?

Maybe.

Check the arch. PEAKED like in the classic Egyptian style. and a SCULPTED peak, too. Not something you can do with a case of dynamite and a Boy Scout hatchet. Also the peaked arch SEEMS to be carved into a stone that has beem dressed and FITTED into the canyon wall in a lock-fit fashion.. like it's important that the peak be exactly verticle at the opening.......... and where are all the tailings. The work debris?

There are ancient mines in Sycamore Canyon, worked by the indians long ago AND a legendaty "hidden" pyramid said to be buried in the hills of Sycamore Canyon visible from the air.

It's an interesting story and a good read if you can dodge the paranoid aspect of Conspiracy Theory. Then again if it is NOT a conspiracy theory and you CAN avoid the mental traps and pitfals, Hey wait up.... I'd like to follow you!
