Richard Thompson shows & more

Hey everyone-

Richard Thompson played three solo/acoustic shows in Arizona last week, two of which I attended - Flagstaff on March 7th and Phoenix on March 8th. Both shows were awesome displays of guitar prowess, great songwriting, and powerful singing. I used to hear Fairport Convention on KCAC/KDKB; who knew that their shy lead guitarist would go on to such heights? See him when he comes to your town (or anywhere within 200 miles of your town), buy his CDs, shower him with money and praise. He deserves it.

The Tempe facility I mentioned as a possible "June reunion" site is a bust, so it will have to be somewhere else. The Alwun House would be perfect if it's available. As for the Crawford Cache of KCAC tapes: I've had two cost estimates for professional restoration and digitizing, and I'm talking with various folks (on and off the blog) about funding ideas. Be patient; it will be worth the wait, and I hope we can get it done sooner rather than later.

As you probably know, there was an article in the Arizona Republic (by Michael Senft) on March 5th about Richard Thompson. The latter part of the article was some questions thrown at Thompson, the last one was interesting.

Q: One of your other projects has been "1000 Years of Popular Music" - where you play the greatest pop songs of the last millennium, ranging from early madrigals through Britney Spears. Did you know that one of the songs you do during those shows, Sanford Clark's "The Fool," was recorded in Phoenix at a studio about a mile away from the Rhythm Room?

A: Really? Are you serious? That's fantastic. Thanks for the hint - I may have to dust that off. We'll see if I can remember.

And dust it off he did, because, as you know, he played Sanford Clark's "The Fool" at the Phoenix show (Rhythm Room).

And I heard Mariah yell out, "Sanford Clark will be inducted into the Arizona Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame in September of this year."
