Neil Young's "Living With War"

In what may be the coolest move yet in a long career of coolness, Neil Young has made all ten tracks of his essential new album, "Living With War" available for free over the Internet and is encouraging websites to post this link to the player page.
You guys gotta hear this album. Young recorded it during an impassioned nine day creative streak and decided to make it immediately available online - to the surprise of even his record company, Reprise, which was still busy promoting his seven-month-old album, "Prairie Wind," and the Jonathan Demme-directed concert film, "Heart of Gold," which hit theaters just last month.
Clearly, Young is on a roll, and this album rocks. Listen, listen, listen!

And after you get the music playing, read the official blog page about the project. From that page:

"I was waiting for someone to come along, some young singer 18 to 22 years old, to write these songs and stand up," Young said. "I waited a long time. Then, I decided that maybe the generation that has to do this is still the '60s generation. We're still here."

P.S. - If you use a Mac and want to record the album while it streams, get the free Audio Hijack Pro. Works like a charm!

Jimmy,
You're right, this is GREAT. What a relief to hear one of 'us' stoking the embers in our souls...lets hope its the first in a bunch of great artists from our era doing socially conscious music once again.

Did you see the routine Stephen Colbert ("The Colbert Report") did at the White House Correspondent's Dinner last weekend? You can link to it through the huffington post.com (remember Ariana Huffington?) It's well worth hearing.

Holy Cow, Batman! You're right, Mariah, it's awesome, and even more awesome that he did this at all, and the way he did it. Great post about it, Jimmy, especially including the remark from his blog, that was good to hear... er, read. I listened to part of it, went to his site and registered there, put links to Living With War on my own site, and then bought the album... Amazon.com will be shipping it when it's released. I'm stoked seven different ways at once, this is very, very nice, and thanks ever-so-bunches for posting it here.

Great to hear from you!! Where have you been?
Lets get some dialogue going on this site! Miss hearing your insights and comments!

Did you hear the Stephen Colbert thing I talked about? I'd like to hear what you think of it. He will probably be audited for life!!

By the way I started a little blog of my own if you want to check it out it's AnachroNymph.com...please add comments if you want to.

It's politically oriented, socially conscious (I hope!) and at the moment has one satirical piece on it about the president's personal DC 'holy trinity.'

It's one of two website projects I'm doing. Building the music/arts site right now. Wish me luck! Maybe you can send stuff to that one too!

Hope you and yours are well and that you will check in more often!!
Peace!

Hahaha! That was great... you posted the Fly On The Wall thing on your blog... nicely cheeky of you!

Link to the Stephen Colbert video

Rather devastating... I liked it, of course. :~)

Three "ha's" from you...that makes my day! I was surprised to see that in a short time 340 people had hit the site. Makes me wonder how many people just randomly type in stuff just to see what comes up!

You put it so well, Colbert sure was 'devastating." I didn't know whether I wanted to laugh or cry at what he said.

But if Bush had made fun of himself instead of getting huffy about it, perhaps he could have scored some points in the "relates to the people" category...

Or if he watched some news, even the fake kind!! (not Faux News, I mean the Daily Show and Colbert Report!)

Geez, it takes a satirist getting mistakenly invited to a dinner for a room full of journalism's elite "White House Correspondents" to get the administration's attention.

Hmm, any word on who lost their job over THAT booking??

He he... you might be right, someone could easily lose a job over that. Mr. Bush was not a happy camper. I said above that I "liked it"... perhaps I should clarify ~ I enjoyed his discomfort to a certain degree, but that's kind of a cheap thrill... I also enjoyed most of what Colbert said, in the sense that it was a slap in the face wake up call, but on the other hand I'm uncomfortable with the blatant rudeness of it, in spite of the fact that such rudeness may be well-earned. I think the underlying issues (credibility, competence, etc.) merit more sober treatment, and also that the Office of the President deserves more respect, even if the person occupying that Office doesn't. I guess I'd have to say I have mixed feelings about the brutal attack Colbert delivered, even if I agree with most of the substance of his satire... can't say that Mr. Bush hasn't asked for it many times over, though... :~)
