As an all volunteer organization dedicated to remaining commercial free, we needs your support in the form of cash donations to help pay for the basic operating cost of the station. With the looming royalty rate increases from the RIAA and rising streaming cost, RFP is now hosting a 3 day Radiothon to draw attention to the cause. Well, the corporate guard dogs are snarling at our front doors and we'd best lock our doors and hollar.
Without freedom to play REAL music on the airwaves, all we will have in radio is a take-no- prisoners bully pulpit controlled by big money, not by anyone who gives a damn about music, freedom or the creative minds who know how to program music that matters so much to so many.
For listeners this corporate bullying is a crisis; for musicians it's a crime. Only internet radio provides an opening for them because stations like RFP are run by music lovers, pros who are knowledgeable and dedicated; who make programming decisions based on quality, on knowing how to FEEL and appreciate music for its own sake. Without internet radio how will new musicians, singers and songwriters get heard? It certainly won't be on other 'radio stations' or television shows.
RFP weaves beautiful, many colored and textured threads using yesterday and today's music and radio clips to create an audio tapestry for our grateful senses. Every day 24/7 RFP is a living tribute to the spirit and work of that era's radio pioneers; those we are so lucky to still have from that delightful mix as well as those who now broadcast from another universe.
The core of what we are about here is keeping our world connected to the joy that has sprung from the salad days of KCAC and KDKB. Radio Free Phoenix is the only place we will ever again hear broadcasts of things like the original Love Workshop sketches that Marty writes about, as well as many other priceless gifts culled from the highly inventive and courageously crazy minds at the helm of those KCAC KDKB days.
The RFP Marathon is a wonderful opportunity to show our support for all that is so important about internet radio. I guess it comes down to what it's worth to us to keep real radio alive. We have the best of it in our own back yard.
If we all forego a night at the flicks and donate $20 to the cause instead, it would feel good for all of us, no? After all, we're the 'if it feels good do it" generation. And it will feel good for us and for them.
The link Andy provided even allows us to donate a small amount each month to the station ala NPR. How cool is that? So, thanks Andy. Liz, Cheryl and the gang at RFP for all you do to keep real radio alive, and great music playing in our ears day and night!
What RFP gives us is truly magical. Like Buffy sang, "God is alive, Magic is Afoot."

Thousands of Internet radio stations went silent yesterday to protest the new retroactive royalty rates that may go into effect on July 15th. If these government-mandated fees do pass, Radio Free Phoenix will definitely need a boost from its listeners.

Terrific to put a donation button on our site! $20 a month would go a long way for RFP. Five bucks a week for all that great music and incredible material Andy programs at RFP! Wow.
Sirius and XM charge money and require pricey hook ups for their robo radio. If new generations get hip to independent internet radio they will demand it. So corporate bullies job one is to make it impossible for internet radio to survive.
Everyone's making a killing from music except the musicians and music lovers who are passionate about music and work to keep it alive.
Interesting news: An A and R guy from LA who did a seminar here several weeks ago said bands now have to pay the Tonight Show to get on. So if you're not Sting, you're groveling to the music mafia.
If that's true (nothing surprises anymore) it's a chilling window into the future of music broadcasting anywhere. Freedom of expression and the right of individuals to earn a living? What a quaint notion.
