Compton's Christmas Message from 1970

A week late with this, but better late than never! Courtesy of Tom Wright: KCAC's Bill Compton on the air, 12/23/70.
Part 1

Part 2

Better to hear Compton's inimitable voice on this, but here's the list of songs mixed into the collage (alas, missing from the airchecks):
The Incredible String Band - A Very Cellular Song
Turley Richards - I Heard The Voice Of Jesus
The Edwin Hawkins Singers - Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord/Oh Happy Day
Leon Russell - The Prince of Peace
Original Cast - Main Theme from Jesus Christ, Superstar
Phil Ochs - The Crucifixion
The Incredible String Band - The Greatest Friend I Have In Life
James Taylor - Lo And Behold
John Stewart - I Do Believe I'd Have Been A Friend Of Jesus In His Time
Johnny Rivers - Jesus Is A Soul Man
Johnny Cash - Jesus Was A Carpenter
Simon & Garfunkel - 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night
Melanie - Merry Christmas
Handel's Messiah - Hallelujah Chorus

OMG! In the first few seconds Bill mentions they'll be off Christmas Day. Steve Zind & I worked that Christmas 1970 at the 3rd avenue house. I was 16! Good Gawd:) SO GOOD to hear Bill's voice again. I posted a photo of the house and studio which i took that very day and should be somewhere in the online KCAC foto album.

40 years past and another begins tonight...

God bless us...every...one

Hi, Jimmy, Fran...

Good for posting this again, Jimmy! I tried to find the photo albums, but the sidebar links on the old version slipped through the cracks when you upgraded... can we get those back? The link to the photo albums is: http://www.vagabondvet.com/kcacpics.html

Wow, I just listened to that too, and it gave me chills. I was there in '70... don't remember what we were doing, but I can't imagine we didn't listen to Bill on his Christmas show. It sure sounds familiar. Makes me cry to hear Bill again and remember the spirit of the times.

Whenever I hear "Lo & Behold" by James Taylor I can hear the voice of WEC playing it for "sweet baby Jesus". I can even remember where I was when he played that collage. Great to hear it again. thank you.

Just listening to the soothing voice of WEC makes me sooo relaxed. I had forgoten what a powerful effect he had on me as I approached my 20s. How I wish he was around to fill in with the stories of the KRUXunderground, KCAC, and KDKB beginnings.
